Amateur Rib Cookers Needed

Historic Downtown Yankton is seeking Amateur Rib Cook-Off contestants to highlight
the 4th Rockinʼ Ribfest in downtown Yankton, SD. The Amateur Rib Cook-Off
Competition is open to everyone and follows the KCSB guidelines. Registration starts
at 9:00 am at 3rd & Douglas in downtown Yankton with a turn in time at approximately
4:30 pm. First place will be awarded with a $400 cash prize, second place with $300
and third place with $200.

Benefit Concert
July 30th 2010- Madison, SD
Tonic Sol-fa, one of the nation's most in-demand vocal groups, will perform a benefit concert for Habitat for Humanity of East Central South Dakota on Friday, July 30, at Trojan Field on the campus of Dakota State University.
The July 30 concert will begin with an opening performance by the SuFuDu Drumline, a select group of percussionists from the quad state area between the ages of 15 and 21.
All net proceeds from the concert will go directly to Habitat for Humanity of East Central South Dakota, serving Lake and Moody counties.

EMS Class

The Emergency Medical Services Program of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services will offer a workshop on “Water Emergencies” for emergency medical technicians and first responders. The workshop will be held at Willow Lake on Thursday, August 5, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Harvest Festival

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Dante, SD is holding its annual Harvest Festival fundraiser Sunday, August 8, 2010. Singles Dance

The Yankton Area Social Singles will host a singles dance on Saturday, August 14th. The band JK’s Country will provide music from 8:00 pm to 12:00 midnight at the Yankton VFW, 209 Cedar Street, Yankton, SD. Admission is $8 per person with $1 toward a cash drawing. Adams Homestead

On August 14, 1997, Adams Homestead & Nature Preserve officially opened as a state park. We mark this very special occasion by having an annual festival on or around this day. This year Saturday, August 14, 2010 has been selected as our festival date.
There are many new and exciting activities that are scheduled throughout the day. Some of the activities include threshing machine demo, corn shelling, candlemaking, tin punching, homestead tours, rope making, musicians, watermelon seed spitting contest, buffalo chip throwing contest, face painting, rope making, Dutch Oven Cooking Demo, Frying pan throwing contest, homemade pie contest and much, much more!
Those interested in participating in the homemade pie judging contest need to bring their pies to Adams Homestead by 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 14. The pie judging will start at 11:30 p.m. Pies will be judged by their appearance, texture and taste.
Plan to spend the entire day at Adams. We will have food and refreshments that you may purchase while enjoying your day of FREE entertainment. There will be activities, presentations, music, and crafts for the ENTIRE family to enjoy and take part in. Get a sense of history, learn about your heritage and explore the outdoors! Bring your walking shoes, bikes, strollers and your love for the great outdoors and we will do the rest!
We are located off Interstate 29 Exit 4, 1-mile west, and ½ mile south. You can follow the brown nature area signs from the interstate.

EMS Class
Sept. 13th 2010- Yankton, SD
Beginning September 13th, Yankton County EMS will be conducting a EMT Basic class. This is a 120 hour Basic EMT class following the National Education Standards for EMTs. The course will finish in January 2011, and students will then be eligible to take the National Registry EMT test. Applications can be picked up at 805 Capitol St. or on our website at yanktonems.com. You can also call 668-9033 or 661-6795 for information.
The class will be held at the Yankton County EMS Training Center, 805 Capital Street. Application deadline is August 20th. Pre-registration is required. Class size is limited.

Heritage Ride
Aug. 21st 2010- Elk Point, SD
Heritage Ride 2010-Elk Point, SD Saturday, August 21st, 2010 Registration is at Cody’s Homestead parking lot, just off Exit 18 and I- 29. We are getting a new Main street, so we’ll be in the parking lot of Cody’s, far West Main street. Signs will be posted. Reg. starts at 7:30 am. Come early, we’ll flip some pancakes, and sausage before the ride, for a small fee.
SAG wagon & refreshments provided during Ride Come and join in the fun! This will be our 13th bike ride, raising funds for our Youth Mentoring Program. The Bike Ride will start at 9:00am. All of our bike routes are on blacktop, and we have varying lengths to fit the beginning to the experienced rider. Lewis and Clark Heritage Days Festival will also be taking place, and you are welcome to join in the food, fun and entertainment at the City Park. Lunch and Tee shirt options are available. This year, lunch will be served at Cody’s, at the Registration area. Your participation helps keep our mentoring program thriving in Clay and Union County, SD! We will have 6 different routes, and sags will have snacks with them. Two break stops are scheduled on the main route. Bicycle helmets are required. Riders must be at least 10, with adults supervision needed for youth 10-16.

Rockin' RibFest
Sept. 18th 2010-Yankton, SD
In its fourth year, Rockinʼ Ribfest has become a popular one-day event located on 3rd Street in Historic Downtown Yankton. Last yearʼs event drew a crowd of over 8,500 people to the area. Yanktonʼs “Biggest Block Party” features FREE LIVE music, a FREE Kidsʼ Playland, an Amateur Rib Cook-Off Competition and rib vendors from across the Midwest. Rockinʼ Ribfest will be held on Saturday, September 18th from 11 am - 11 pm. A free classic rock ʻn roll concert opening with Rust will kick off the event. The Mitigators, Mrs. Begley and the Boys, the Austin Beuscher Band and Go Figure will follow. Quazy will cap off the night, playing from 9 - 11 pm.

On Sept. 18th, they will be sponsoring ' Walk a Mile in her Shoes' where men aprticipate by walking a designated route, in women's heeled shoes to raise awareness for domestic violence and sexual assult.
