Memorial Day through Labor Day - Lewis & Clark Lake, Yankton, SD
Lewis and Clark Lake Ministry will have Interdenominational Church Services from Memorial Day through Labor Day. They will be held on the South Dakota side at Pierson Ranch Amphitheater on Sunday at 10:30 A.M. and on the Nebraska side at Weigand State Park at 9:00 A.M.

Yankton Area Arts would like to invite you to participate in this year in the Mighty Mo Photo Show. Our 2009 juried photographic exhibition theme is The River: Wonder of Nature. This is an area photographic competition designed to compliment Yankton's Annual Riverboat Days celebration and to encourage and recognize the talents of area photographers. You are invited to participate. Entries may arrive as early as July 20 and no later than July 24. The exhibit will run from August 8 through Sept 16.

5K run/walk

The Crofton Running Club will be hosting a 5K fun run/walk on July 4th . The walkers will start at 7:30 and the runners will start at 8:00 at Southside Park, (Hwy 12 and 2nd Street, Crofton, NE) Cash Prizes for division winners and overall male and female winners. Divisions are as follows (separate divisions for males and females) 14 and under, 15-20, 21-30, 31-45, 46-55, 56-65. Babysitter training Classes
July 6 2009- Yankton, SD
Yankton County Red Cross will be offering two more Babysitter’s Training Classes this summer. The materials in this class are New and Improved from the previous American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training curriculum. The classes will be held on Monday, July 6th and Tuesday, August 11th from 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM.
The purpose of the Babysitter’s Training Course is to provide youth, ages 11-15, who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic child care and basic first aid.
The class fee is $30 which includes class materials and a first aid kit. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Contact the Yankton Red Cross office at 665-7572 or e-mail your interest to yanktonrc@iw.net.
Summer Concert Series

Summer Band Concerts are held every Tuesday evening, beginning at 8:00 pm, at the amphitheatre in Riverside Park. The all-volunteer band presents 6 concerts the first half of summer boasting an average membership of 70-100 musicians of all ages from students to professionals from Yankton and the surrounding communities. Conductors from music departments around the area join the band to give each concert a unique program, playing to a dedicated and enthusiastic audience.
Ice Cream Social

First United Methodist Church of Yankton will be holding an Ice Cream Social July 7th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm before the last summer band concert at Riverside Park by the Amphitheater. We will be serving rootbeer floats for $2 and ice cream cones for $1. Half of the proceeds will go to our Vacation Bible School and the other half is going to the Food Pantry.

Tractor Ride

2009 WNAX Tri-State Old Iron Association Tractor Ride. Check-In will be held on Thursday, July 9th, with the actual ride on Friday and Saturday, July 10th and 11th. This year’s ride will be similar to last years, as the entire ride will originate from one location—right here in Yankton, South Dakota. The Emergency Medical Services Program of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services will offer a workshop on “Improving Stroke Care in Nebraska” for emergency medical technicians and first responders. The workshop will be held at the Hadar Fire Hall on Thursday, July 9, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Veterinary Camp

 The Iowa Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) will conduct a “Veterinary Camp” on July 14th from 2 to 5 pm at the Sioux County Fairgrounds in Sioux Center. The camp is focused on educating students between the ages of 14 and 17. The goal is to spark their interest in veterinary medicine. Vet Camp will consist of three stations with activities such as learning proper injection sites and techniques, first aid and care of small animals, bandaging, basic physical exam skills and much more. Local veterinarians along with veterinary technicians and veterinary students from the area will also be there to help teach.

The annual Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Festival, JazzFest, has become a summer favorite for Sioux Falls and the region. JazzFest is a two-day outdoor musical event, featuring two stages and is FREE to the public. At JazzFest 2008 an estimated 90,000 enjoyed the music, sun, food and people watching.

Corn Palace Festival

Each year the exterior panels of the Corn Palace are decorated with locally grown corn. The process usually starts in the spring and is completed by the end of September. Horse Competition

September 19 & 20, 2009- Spencer, Iowa 
The Clay County Fair horse department is bringing a new competition to the last weekend of the fair. The North American Six-Horse Hitch Classic Series is set to be held on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 in the outdoor arena on the fairgrounds. The horse department has paired up with the North American Classic Series to bring the first ever six-horse hitch class eligible for points to the Clay County Fair.  For more details call 712.262.4740 ext. 21
